Shopping Round 2: Hyundai Ioniq 5

I liked the styling of the Ioniq 5 from the moment I first saw reports about it, and was really pleased that it didn’t lose any of its edge between the first looks and actual production. They were just getting deliveries to select Texas dealerships toward the end of my shopping, but I managed to find one to test drive. It was much bigger in person than I expected. The rear passenger space was enormous, especially with the rear seats that slide fore and aft. While I would have loved that in a primary car, it was not quite the hot hatch I was looking for. Had I ever gotten close to buying one the dealership experience would probably have stopped me. At least the one I went to (which you would presume is one of the better ones if they got some of the first shipments) seemed actively disinterested in selling this car, and EVs in general. And my “test drive” consisted of a 5 minute loop around the back of the dealership, up a side street, and along the access road back to the dealership. I don’t think I got above 40 mph, so I really can’t comment on how the car drives, but I can confirm that it has a one-pedal drive mode that seemed good.
